In its 2024 Power List, Maryland's Daily Record praises Joseph Gibson as "among the most influential and respected practitioners in the employment law sector in Maryland."
As the Executive Director and General Counsel of the Employment Law Center of Maryland (ELC), Joe is proud to offer Maryland employees affordable, excellent employment representation. Joe represents clients who have been wrongfully fired from their jobs—as well as clients who are facing discrimination or harassment in the workplace. He also litigates unpaid wages cases, ensuring that his clients are fairly paid for their work. Joe counsels employees who have written warnings or who have been placed on performance improvement plans. He skillfully guides clients and cases through every stage of an employment case, from discovery and settlement negotiations through trial. Joe's first priority is keeping his clients informed, empowered, and advancing towards success in their employment case. Prior to his work at ELC, Joe held the position of Judicial Law Clerk to the Honorable Harry C. Storm of the Montgomery County Circuit Court, and was a Litigation Law Clerk at the Employment Law Group, P.C., one of the nation's premier employment law firms, where he worked on complex discrimination, retaliation, whistleblower, and civil fraud cases around the country. Joe is an active member of the National Employment Lawyers Association (NELA), where he has been appointed to the national Ethics & Sanctions Committee, as well as the Maryland State Bar Association (MSBA) and Bar Association of Frederick County (BAFC). Joe is passionate about lawyer well-being, and is a member of the MSBA Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP). Joe lives in the Frederick, Maryland area with his wife. When he's not busy fighting for employees' rights, Joe is an avid motorcyclist, photographer, and Trekkie (The Next Generation, of course).
